Socialism:The Left Says Who Cares?
The criticism from the right over the course of this campaign season is Barack Obama is a socialist. Early on, the Obama camp denied this allegation. Within the past couple of months, the right has continued the argument. Obama teamed with Biden now are saying that they are not socialists, they are politicians promoting fairness. This defense worked, because low income families want more money. Why would they argue against receiving more money? The right has still pushed the issue that Obama is a socialist, and Obama even had a slip up with “Joe the Plumber” saying that he wants to “spread the wealth around”. Oh boy, did the right jump all over that. McCain is still talking about their exchange in his stump speeches.
This has led to a recent defense from the left. The new defense is Who Cares? They say, well President Bush, who is a republican, just nationalized some companies. That’s socialism! So who cares if Obama has proposed some socialist policies? The republicans did it already. How many of you who agree with that statement support what Bush did? I hope nobody agrees with what Bush has done. If you don’t agree with what Bush has done, how can you ask for more of it. I understand people want help, people need relief. I am not against social policies that are set up to temporarily provide help. It’s the right thing to do. The wrong thing to do is to permanently take from successful people forcefully to give to less fortunate individuals. People do need help right now, but national health-care, bigger government, redistributing wealth through unfair tax policies, and socialism is not the answer.
Remember in the early 1900’s from about the 20’s to the 40’s? Germany, Russia and many other nations where the people were struggling were begging for help. Who came in with fresh new ideas? Karl Marx came in with some new ideas. His ideas were socialism. The government takes over the important sectors of the economy and the market will take care of the rest. Lenin promised help to the people of Russia, Hitler to Germany. They started down the path of socialism. Russia continued to the extreme of communism. What happened to their economies? What happened to the people living inside their borders? They lost freedoms, they lost jobs, they lost homes, they lost their lives. How could this happen though? Their leaders promised that they would spread the wealth around, they promised things would get better. Their economies crashed and they couldn’t afford to continue to support their people. They started printing more money, and this lead to hyper-inflation. People would carry buckets of money to the grocery store to buy a loaf of bread. A pair of shoes that cost only 12 marks, 10 years later would cost billions of marks for the same shoes in Germany.
We all want America to prosper and for every citizen to have the chance to succeed. There are other ways to grow an economy without the government taking over. If the economy is the most important issue to you for the upcoming election, do what is right for the people. America is a strong nation and we are strong people. We are hurting right now and do want help. We want a hand up, not a hand out. Don’t insult us with welfare checks, support us by growing the economy, and creating jobs in the free market. Help us to support ourselves, don’t try to do everything for us.
Don’t just follow the crowd and say who cares, take a step back and look at what may happen. Make the right choice.

nice post, but America became socialist after the new deal with programs like social security and food stamps I fear. During the great depression there were tons of people that turned to the government for help. The President at the time didnt want to see that collaspe of America or an angry mob kicking down the doors at the white house so he proposed the “new deal”.
Either way I think we might be in for some very tough times. Run away spending, printing and borrowing more money is a recipe for disaster if you ask me. It doesn’t matter who wins, we are still going borrow money like crazy.
